    Most Common Birth Urethra Defects

    Inborn valves of the urethra – these are the membranes covered with mucosa and which become the obstacles for the urine to flow through the urethra. They mostly appear in boys, yet girls may get such anomaly too. There are three main types of the urethra valves: in the form of a cup; cone-shape; transverse membranes.

    Hypertrophy of the seminal hillock is a situation when it becomes an obstacle and does not allow urine to go through the urethra.

    An obstructive urethral stricture is one of the most dangerous anomalies of the urethra. Urine starts to flow through the urogenital fistulas or the urachus in an unborn child. Both of these ways are unnatural and may cause a harmful impact.

    Doubling of the urethra, which in its turn can have two forms:

    • partial doubling (when the second urethra has no normal ending and has a dead end);
    • full doubling (when both urethras begin at the bladder and have an indoor ending).

    Inborn pockets of the urinary tract – these are the saccular formations on the outer side of the urethra.

    Inborn cysts of the urethra – baglike formations inside the urethra filled with fluid.

    Urethra hypospadias – the splitting of the posterior urethra’s wall that appears between the scrotum and the balanus. It has three forms:

    • backside hypospadias (the opening of the urethra appears right next to the scrotum);
    • middle hypospadias (the urethra opens somewhere between the scrotum and the middle part of the penis);
    • frontal hypospadias (the hole appears right near the balanus).

    Anaspadias – the splitting of the frontal side of the urethra. Its forms differ concerning boys and girls. Talking about boys it can be:

    • anaspadias of the balanus;
    • anaspadias of the penis’ body;
    • total anaspadias.

    Girls may get the following forms of the anaspadias:

    • anaspadias of the clitoris;
    • subpubic anaspadias;
    • total anaspadias.

    Treating of Erectile Dysfunctions and Other Aftermaths of Urethra Defects

    Prevention is always better than the treatment of the already existing disease or dysfunction. Here are some useful tips that will help to prevent the problems with the urethra of yours and your future child.

    • Planned pregnancy and getting prepared for it. Both parents have to go through all necessary health tests and find out if they have any illnesses that might cause urethral defects.
    • Regular visits to an obstetrician-gynecologist.
    • Healthy diet. During pregnancy, it is not recommended to take products with high levels of fats and carbohydrates. Try to eat more products rich in proteins, calcium and vitamins to make the development of the fetus go well.
    • Special exercises for pregnant women. These can be also some stretching and breathing exercises. Have not more than 30 minutes daily.
    • Calming regime. Try to avoid nervous stresses.

    Stay away from alcohol, smoking, and drugs. Taking pills that are not recommended during pregnancy is also strictly prohibited.

    In most of the cases urethra defects require operative treatment; otherwise, it will be impossible to get rid of them and their aftermaths.

    There are different types of such operative treatment:

    • exsection of the part of the urethra where the valve is formed;
    • exsecution of the hypertrophic seminal colliculus;
    • cystostomy – disposal of urine with the help of catheter;
    • ablation of the tightened parts of the canal and cysts in it;
    • bouginage – the input of special instruments inside the urethra that has to spread it wider;
    • Plastic surgeries to hide the signs of urethra anaspadias.

    Erectile dysfunctions are one of the possible side effects of the urethra defects. The patient may get a weak erection or its full absence, or having sex may become very inconvenient. Treating with such medicines like Viagra will be hardly effective. Even if helps for a few times, such help will be only symptomatic and will not help to get rid of the main reasons for the dysfunction.

    The diseases that are caused by different infections and microorganisms, like urethritis, can be also effectively treated by antibiotic drugs. Such pills have a great variety of side effects and they have to be prescribed by a doctor. The whole course should be under the précised doctor’s control.

    Patients should never go on with self-treatment and ask for the doctor’s consultation. Only the following to all advices and having all necessary operations, if necessary, will guarantee you the best effect and getting rid of all symptoms and aftermaths of the urethra defects.
